The plot progressed at a steady pace while also building on the individual pulls to each of the harem men. She’s funny, fierce, a little psycho, and deep down she just wants to be normal. I’m feelin’ this harem like WHOA and I absolutely have a Lady Boner for our FMC. 7th Circle lays down a firm foundation to a thrilling series I know will surpass MK for me. The young/innocent boyman is my favorite. Not 100% definitive, but I’m LOVING where that whole thing is going. The young/innocent boyman, the stoic/calm subordinate, and the alpha/aggressive rival leader. This book had everything from a strong, independent, yet vulnerable FMC and her budding harem of 3 of the BEST types of men. I’m not saying names because that’s a huge build-up to release day, but damn. I had no doubt, NONE, that she would blow my mind with this new series and ya know what? She blew my freaking mind.

Over time, Marco discovers that Celia is the person he will have to duel. When he is sent away to study under Chandresh at the Night Circus, Marco sends the fortune teller, Isobel, who is also his girlfriend, to spy on Celia and her development as a magician. While Celia and Marco are not aware that they are each other’s destined opponents, all of their actions are part of an elaborate game of magical chess that only one of them will survive. Chandresh also hires Celia Bowen as an illusionist and, in turn, unknowingly establishes the Night Circus as a venue for the impending magical battle between Celia and Marco. Inspired by Prospero’s challenge, The Man in Grey locates a pupil of his own, a young orphan named Marco Alasdair, to whom he teaches the ways of “old magic.” Upon turning 18, Marco is sent to work for Chandresh Christopher Lefevre, who is the creator of the Night Circus, a mysterious traveling circus featuring mesmerizing-and sometimes magical-shows and exhibits. Though Prospero does not wish to raise his child, he nevertheless becomes fascinated by Celia’s mastery of “new magic.” Prospero immediately contacts his former teacher, the Man in Grey, and requests a duel to the death between their magical protégés: a clash of old magic and new. The novel opens in 1873, as five year-old Celia Bowen is left at the office of Prospero the Entertainer, her estranged magician father, after her mother’s suicide. Hugh Lofting's doctor from Puddleby-on-the-Marsh who could speak to animals first saw light in the author's illustrated letters to children, written from the trenches during World War I when actual news, he later said, was either too horrible or too dull. "It does not bother me any more now, but I still feel there should be a category of 'seniles' to offset the epithet." "For years it was a constant source of shock to me to find my writings amongst 'juveniles,'" Lofting reported. Lofting was married three times and had three children, one of whom, his son Christopher, is the executor of his literary estate. Seriously wounded in the war, he moved with his family to Connecticut in the United States. Not wishing to write to his children of the brutality of the war, he wrote imaginative letters that were the foundation of the successful Doctor Dolittle novels for children. He traveled widely as a civil engineer before enlisting in the Irish Guards to serve in World War I. His early education was at Mount St Mary's College in Sheffield, after which he went to the United States, completing a degree in civil engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Lofting was born in Maidenhead, England, to English and Irish parents. Hugh Lofting was a British author, trained as a civil engineer, who created the character of Doctor Dolittle - one of the classics of children's literature. I read this in one sitting, unable to put it down despite its disturbing content. In the original acknowledgements, the author calls this novella “a bizarre fantasy of manipulation and depravity” written in five days while pushed “to dangerous areas … of creative Armageddon.” After reading this story, I totally get it.Īgnes and Zoe, aka Agnes in Wonderland and Crushed Marigolds and aka Drudge and Sponsor, commence through posts on a fictional website community board.
